The children are at the heart of the whole design concept of our nursery. We have three rooms which accommodate children aged 3 months – 5 years, all of which provide enchanting environments for children to learn and explore. Our three rooms are Discoverers (Babies), Explorers (Toddlers) and Inventors (Pre-School). Each environment is designed to offer a multitude of educational stimuli for your child to explore through autumnal play. Different parts of each room provide a range of areas for your child to either be noisy, hands on and practical, or perhaps comfortable, quiet and reflecting. Learning is based on your child’s choice, so the facilities and resources are specifically designed to be child friendly, accessible and fun.
Discoverers (Babies)
The Baby Room is full of sensory toys, textures and enchanting “bits and bobs”. In the early stages of a babies development they are mostly exploring the world around them, so it is important that they experience a range of materials, objects and sounds. Unlike their ability to hear, which is fully developed by the time they are born; babies do not fully develop their sight until a little later. The Black and White area helps them to distinguish between shapes and visual objects in these early days.
A dedicated sleep room allows for your child to rest at any given time in a comfortable, relaxed environment. Calming music will help them to sleep, increasing brain activity during rest, which is believed to stimulate the mind. Our cots are made with Silk Mulberry quilts. Your baby can’t tell us when they are hot or cold so these thermo-regulatory sheets ensure comfort at all times.
Explorers (Toddlers)
The Toddler Room is a playground fit for any young explorer! By this age your child will be eager to engage with the surrounding world, so it is important that there is plenty of opportunity for them to do so. With a grand play gym from Community Playthings (pictured below) as the center piece for the room, there will also be a wet play area, role-play area, creative/arts area and plenty of table top space for group activities. And if that all sounds a little too hectic there is also a cosy/book corner for children to get warm and comfortable, sit and read, or rest and sleep.
Children’s Cooking Counter
The kitchen area features an open plan children’s cooking counter, allowing for your child to observe the culinary interests of the kitchen from a safe distance. This encourages children to learn about cooking and the organic ingredients used to prepare their fresh meals. Participation in adult lead cooking activities also allows your child to experience ingredients and techniques of preparing and cooking food for themselves, at their level.
The Aquarium
The Pre-School and Toddler rooms share one magnificent feature. A fresh water tropical aquarium, housed in the wall partition between the two rooms; this creates an enchanting spectacle for your children to observe and explore aquatic life. Not only does this promote intrigue and tranquility but links closely with Understanding the World (EYFS specific area of learning and development).
Inventors (Pre-School)
By the time your child reaches Pre-School they should be comfortable with more complex day to day routines and advanced subject areas, such as basic Maths and Literacy. They still have access to their favorite toys and facilities from the Toddler room but have the added benefit of an Interactive Whiteboard to use for adult lead learning activities. This helps to develop their knowledge of technology and it’s learning benefits, whilst accessing an information rich exposure to learning.
The Pre-School room also has a dedicated music area, which houses a variety of interesting musical instruments, including an electric piano. Creativity will be promoted across all areas of learning but focused music lessons can do wonders for your child’s development.
Community Playthings
Our Nursery equipment and furniture are sourced from Community Playthings. They specialise in customising nursery settings, designing each space to provide stimulating learning environments for children.
“We design and manufacture furniture and play equipment in the UK for primary schools and early years settings. Together with visionary educators, we have been creating beautiful learning environments for over 50 years.
The way that children play influences our designs. Each item is designed to support open-ended play, making sure a child’s imagination is never limited by what they play with. The environment children play in has a great effect on them. Calm, protected areas allow children to concentrate on their play. Children who have ample opportunities for play go on to become eager learners. Our furniture is modular and adaptable, enabling the environment to be changed and developed.”

Outdoor Play Area
Our nursery features an outdoor play area, with a range of activities and equipment to stimulate your child’s physical development. Children will be encouraged to be active in all weather conditions, which is important for their understanding of the world and physical well-being. The Loxfords development also lends itself nicely to the exploration of the outside world, with a safe and secure environment for your child to explore and grow.
