What a wonderful month has been here in the Baby Room at Monkey Puzzle Highbury!
Finally, the warm weather has arrived in London and all of the children have been enjoying the weather in the garden and by going on lovely walks to the park. We have been doing lots of focus activities in the garden by creating an ‘outdoor classroom’. We have enjoyed story time outdoors, with cosy blankets and some of our favourite books. We also loved having our snack outside in the sunshine.
On Friday June 17th we celebrated Father’s Day by having a BBQ at the nursery. Unfortunately, the weather let us down and we had to move the event inside, but never the less we all enjoyed the afternoon and we hope you did too! Thank you for attending and taking part in our activities that we had planned for you to enjoy, especially making the cake. It’s was lovely see you playing with your baby and spending time with us.
The first two weeks of June we have been busy making special presents for Father’s day. We asked all mums to help us with finding out which sport was dads favourite for his individual card.
We used his favourite sport to make different cards with different shapes (football, tennis, golf, skiing) and we let the children freely decorate them with different colour of paint and different way to decorate (painting brush, sponges and hands). We also did foot printing for the dads to decorate their cars and the children decorated their cars by printing their little fingers on it.
We hope you liked your present’s!
We have made a new ‘animal’ display in the Baby Room. The babies are really interested in animals lately, enjoying animal songs, stories and making the animal noises. We have been decorating animals with the children to create our new display called “Old Mc Donald had a … “which has been developing the children vocabulary while decorating the animals. The children have been learning what sound the animals make and we are going to use this display to develop their understanding about question for e.g.“Where is the duck? Where is the cow?”.
The display is divided into three sections: On the top we made animals from the sky like butterflies and birds. In the middle we built a farm with the chickens, cows, sheep and ducks in the lake. And on the bottom we have sea animals like fishes, we made octopuses using hand printing and seahorses. We would like to ask parents to help us translate animal names in different languages so that we can display this, so the children can start recognising their home language and we are including all children’s backgrounds in our nursery.
We have started making the black and white display above our black and white area. You probably have noticed the massive zebra which is a result of our extremely messy baby painting. The babies have been exploring the black paint with feet and arms and they have been able to experiment with the paint and develop their interest in the effect of making movement which leave marks.
I don’t know if you have noticed what we have been learning this month. The colour of the month is yellow, the number that we have been focusing is number two and the shape of the month is line. We left a little suggestion box on the bottom where you can leave your suggestion or something that you want your child to learn next month.
We are planning lots of nice activities for next month but I can’t tell you anything.
SHHH It is a secret!
See you next month!
Baby room team.
June has been a busy month, full of activities and loaded with emotions. Sadly, we had to say good bye to Elisabete, our Room Leader, who has decided to leave us to keep growing in her career. We wish her all the best. We would like to welcome Mahmuda to our team, she will be joining us in the Toddler Room to keep all of your little munchkins busy.
We have also seen some of our little toddlers starting their transition to pre-school. We can’t wait to see you growing as big boys in Pre-school. You will be missed a lot in Toddlers Room.
This month’s calendar has been full of dates and events to celebrate like the Healthy Eating Week. For five days in a row we have worked with yummy fruit and vegetables that will let us grow healthy and strong. We had a lovely circle time with Andrea and her friend the “Harry” the skeleton; he showed us where the food go after we eat it and which are the “good” and “bad” food for us. With Claudia we also spoke about our dental hygiene and which is the food that will make our teeth happy and sad. The children separated the healthy food pictures like broccoli and fruit to the sweet ones like cakes and chocolate bars, sticking them on happy and sad teeth accordingly. The children also have done some painting using pieces of apples, and tasted a lemon that gives us lots of vitamins. It was a “sour” and unforgettable experience that left us with goose bumps J.
Goalllll…..we can still hear them crying. The EURO’s 2016 has brought to the room the beauty of our diversity. We explained the class what the EURO 2016 is, presented as a competition between football teams of different European countries. Our little ones have been shown a big map of Europe and with the help of the teachers they all pointed to their native countries: France, Spain, Italy, Portugal…we got a few! We also decorated flags of our countries that you can see now hung up in the room and we painted our faces with our team flags.. The competition is not finished yet so we don’t know which team will be the winner but it really doesn’t matter because we learnt something more about all of us and had very much fun.as always.
Last but not least we celebrated Father’s day. The children made cards using their imagination (and hands and feet J) to tell their beloved Dad “You are my superhero”. While preparing them the children freely talked about their dads saying “I like my dad” or “I want make dad happy” and “my dad is tall”. They also decorated a bookmark that we hope you are using already, so while working one more thought will be for your little ones.
The BBQ has been a great event that both dads and children enjoyed. The weather tried to put us down but our energy has beaten it. Food was yummy (thanks to Rik and Anthony) and the room was full of joy, smiles and laughter. We took beautiful pictures with our “Instagram” frame that we will send you as soon as possible. Thanks again to all the parents that came to join us, it was a touching afternoon.
Summer has started officially last week and even if the weather is not so sunny and warm yet, please remember to bring in sun cream and sunhats for your children. We all can’t wait to start a new exciting and terrific month!
The highlight of our month was Father’s Day. A big thank you to all the dads who made our party such a success. The children were so excited to make Father’s Day gifts to surprise them and really enjoyed having their dads come to the Nursery.
We would like to also thank to Isabella’s mum for coming to pre-school and providing such a lovely activity. She is a nutritionist and she talked about good habits and how important is to eat healthy food and keep our teeth healthy and clean which will help the children to be more aware about health and self-care.
The children have also been making their own snack to help them to consider and manage some risks and to understand the need for safety.
The inventors had some great outings this month as the weather has been very good to us! We went to the library to get some new books, to the Highbury Park to play football and we also had fun climbing, playing in the sand tray and balancing in the Community Area.
The inventors have had an incredible time experiencing some messy play activities. We mixed some corn flour and paint to help the children become aware of how the colour can change when mixed.
The Inventors have made a new and exciting Birthday Board using an ‘Under the Sea’ theme. The children had fun making lobsters by printing their feet and also make other sea animals to build our amazing birthday board.
We have enjoyed some great water play. The children enjoyed playing with different containers, tubes, sand, balls and spoon learning about capacity and working on our motor skills, pouring from one container to the next. As well as being great fun playing with summer toys and sand. It’s was the best way so say hello to the summer.
The inventors have been continuing our physical education with our yoga classes, as well as sporty champs. They have had lots of fun working on their physical development and the development of their fine and gross motor skills.
Our theme for our new display board has been all about reading. The children have been making amazing cards to practise their early reading and writing by sounding simple words and blending them together. They also have started to represent some sounds correctly and in sequence. It’s has been so exciting to see the progress of the children’s learning.
We have had a lot of fun during our story time. The children have been showing their desire to read books independently. They love to read our simple stories such as ‘Dinosaur roar’, ‘Dear zoo’, ‘Monkey and Me’ and ‘Who can jump?’ and showing awareness about the correct order of reading.
The children have been learning how to act out some of our favourite stories in Drama classes, when they are role playing with the toys and participating n puppets shows, they are using storylines into from drama class into their play.
Finally, we have been talking about Ramadan which is the month of blessings; a month full of opportunities, benefits and blessings for Muslims around the world and Eid, and the way people celebrate it. and some of our children were very happy to share details about that celebration and what their parents do during this time.
